FROM FR TIM

A QUIET WEEK?

I had been planning to get away for a few days this week, but events have transpired to make that impossible. Nevertheless, I am hoping to have some quiet time to reflect and see how best we can manage all the issues which are clamouring for attention.

I think this must be why the Church has Ordinary Time: a time when we just keep things ticking over. The  following week will be half-term and then we are into Lent. Deep breaths all round!

YouthJandPgroupJ&P YOUTH GROUP TABLE SALE

TODAY after each Mass in Fisher-More Hall. Please come along.

Money raised will go to our friends in Zimbabwe and towards our older members of J&P who are going to Lourdes.

Please note: No more donations to be left in church. Thank you to all those who have supported this fundraising event. The group were overwhelmed by your response.

TODAY IS RACIAL JUSTICE SUNDAY

The theme is

“you are at the heart of the church”

It will celebrate the contribution travelling communities make to the church in England and Wales. It is an opportunity to pray for, reflect and respond to Racial Justice matters within the church and wider society.

Racial Justice Sunday should also encourage proactive discussions on overt and covert forms of racism experienced by fellow Catholics from the travelling communities.

There are leaflets available in the porch, please take one.

RcaialJustice2020

When he met with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities Pope Francis said:

“The time has come to put an end to age-old prejudices, preconceptions and mutual mistrust that are often at the base of discrimination, racism and xenophobia. No one must feel isolated, and no one is authorised to trample on the dignity and rights of others.”

Bishop Eton Parish living simply, sustainably with creation and in solidarity with the poor

Message from the Pope:

You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them. This is how prayer works.”

Current Parish challenge:  (wk 6)

Flick the switch! No household to have lights on needlessly; if a room is unoccupied, turn the lights off … though this is   always subject to safety and security considerations.

Future challenge:

Watch out for our upcoming challenge on Fair Trade goods.

charitybagsFeb2020Successes:  Thank you …

An impressive 142 bags of surplus clothing, books or household items were delivered to Nugent, Hospice Africa or Jospice. A magnificent effort. We will be repeating this challenge later in the year.

Did you know:

The average UK home uses a third of the electricity of a USA home because

  1. Their houses are bigger
  2. They have air conditioning, and
  3. We use a lot more gas.

The average UK home uses 10+ times more electricity than a Third World home because

  1. We have a consistent supply for our multitude of appliances
  2. They have an inconsistent (or no) supply for their few (or no) appliances in their modest dwellings!

MARRIAGE MATTERS REFLECTIONS FOR THIS WEEK

A Reflection from Marriage Matters (www.twoinoneflesh.org.uk) for this Sunday

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time  (Isaiah 58:7-10 1   Corinthians 2:1-5   Matthew 5:13-16)

Unity is the key

When we married, a new flame was lit in our Church, signified by the lighting of a new candle as we made our vows and became “Little Church” together.  Now, as we think of our life up to now, we can see how our love has been reflected on to our children, our family and our Church community.

Pope's Prayer Intention February 2020

The Pope's prayer intention for February is 'Listen to the Migrants’ Cries

We pray that the cries of our migrant brothers and sisters, victims of criminal trafficking, may be heard and considered.
